Housekeeping

Housekeeping is defined as managing of domestic concerns. Though it has been concerned as a women’s domain, things are changing. More men are getting interested in housekeeping. It is a demanding profession, since marinating a house includes everything from cleaning, cooking, dusting, laundry and so on. Though there are a number of gadgets these days, synchronizing the work is very important. A good house keeper will be good at time management. Imagine the plight of our ancestors who never had the sophisticated gadgets to help them! There is a 5S in housekeeping, which is derived from Japanese. They are Seiri (Sorting), Seiton(Setting in order, Straightening, Simplifying), Seiso(Sweeping, Shining, Systematic cleaning) , Seiketsu (Standardizing), Shitsuke (Sustaining). This 5s concept has been utilized in the management domain and can be incorporated into housekeeping. The first 3 components of the 5S housekeeping program or system can be used anytime, even before the 5S program is instituted. The 3S are as follows. They are Seiri, Seiton and Seiso. Large companies have to audit their housekeeping and hence prepare a checklist which contains the parameters to audit them. Thus housekeeping is a challenging but an interesting job! It requires lot of patience and oodles of sincerity!
