Dial Up Connections
Dial Up connections are the cheapest internet connections. They are the slowest and most inexpensive. The PC dials a phone number and connects to the server. This way internet is accessed. A standard 56K modem can transfer 56 Kilobits of data a second, but this is theoretical value. Practically, it is lesser due to traffic flow and compression overhead. The advantage of a dial up connection is the cost. It is affordable and hardware costs are less too. Dial up connections are very slow. This is their disadvantage. The data is sent in analog form and hence there is a need for analog to digital conversion and vice versa. People are now moving to ASDL connections for faster and better connectivity!
